Dagnam Park's Spiders

All of the photos below were taken in the park and with very few exceptions they were taken by Don Tait. The commentary is by Peter Harvey the Essex Field Club's Spider recorder. There are only a handful of authenticated spider records for the park, they are listed below, sorry not many have English names.


Enoplognatha ovata sens. str; Nuctenea umbratica; Philodromus aureolus; Pisaura mirabilis; Segestria senoculata; Tegenaria gigantea; Agelena labyrinthica;
Araneus quadratus; Argiope bruennichi;

Trochosa species, probably Trochosa ruricola from the pale abdominal stripe, but impossible to be absolutely certain without microscopic examination. photo Don Tait.
21st May 2014. Recently hatched araneid orb web spiderlings, probably garden spiders Araneus diadematus, but most species look the same
27th August 2014, Araneus quadratus, probably juvenile
Araniella species, one of four closely similar species which need microscopical examination for an id.
9th May 2014. Araniella species, one of 4 closely similar species which need microscopical examination for an id.
10th October 2012 Araneus diadematus garden spider.
9th June 2014, Tetragnatha species, there are similar species which all need microscopical id..
Xysticus species, there are similar species which all need microscopical id
9th August 2014, Argiope bruennichi, the wasp spider.
24th May 2012, Pisaura mirabilis (nursery web spider)
Pardosa species, there are similar species which all need microscopical id.
